Biographical Presentation
Piemont: Nicolas P., Landschaftsmaler, geb. zu Amsterdam 1659, † in Vollenhove 1709. Er war ein Schüler von Zaagmolen und später von Nic. Molenaer. Zur Kunstreife gelangt, besuchte er Italien und hielt sich lange in Rom auf, wo er in der Bent den Zunamen Opgang erhielt. In sein Vaterland zurückgekehrt, malte er Landschaften, zu denen er meist italienische Motive benützte. Diese, den Bildern Jan Both's verwandt, fanden viel Zuspruch und der Künstler erwarb sich Ruhm und Vermögen.
