  • Biographical Presentation

    H. erlernte auf Wunsch seines Vaters in Dresden das Tischlerhandwerk, sodann 1771-73 die Fertigung von Tasteninstrumenten bei Johann Andreas Stein in Augsburg. Zu einer weiteren, 6jährigen Ausbildung ging er nach Gera zu Ernst Friederici. Auf dessen Empfehlung gründete H. 1779 in Dresden ein eigenes Atelier und stellte Clavichorde, Cembali, Hammerklaviere und Claviorgana her. 1795 war das 556. Instrument fertig. Zeitweilig leitete er das Unternehmen zusammen mit Heinrich Ludolph Mack, der sein Gehilfe war und dessen Name sich in jener Periode in den Signaturen der Instrumente mit dem von H. verband. Er und H.s Schüler Carl Ernst Fürchtegott Renzsch übernahmen das Atelier nach dem Tode des Meisters, dessen Witwe die Leitung innehatte. Die Instrumente H.s hatten einen Ruf, der dem der Instrumente seines Bruders Gottfried Joseph gleichkam. Von H.s Erzeugnissen sind 1970 nur noch 2 Clavichorde als erhalten nachweisbar.
