Biographical Presentation
Bax: Nicasius Baxius, Humanist, geb. 1. Nov. 1581 zu Antwerpen, † 22. Oct. 1642. Auf der Jesuitenschule seiner Vaterstadt vorgebildet, trat er 1598 in das Augustinerkloster zu Brüssel. Geachtet wegen seiner Lehrthätigkeit ward er, als sein Orden 1608 eine humanistische Schule zu Antwerpen gründete, derselben als Rector vorgestellt und brachte sie zu glücklichem Gedeihen. Später ward er auch Unterprior daselbst. Er schrieb „Poemata“ (1614), darunter auch ein Drama „Theophilus"; „Beatus Thomas a Villanova“ etc. 1622 (nur ein Auszug aus dem spanischen Werke des Mich. Thomas Salon); „Preces Augustinianae“, 1632 und einige andere homiletische, grammatische und rhetorische Werke, von denen die „Amplificandi formulae oratoriae et figurae aliquot rhetoricae ex M. T. Augustiniani Cicer. concinn.“ unter dem Titel „Medulla eloquentiae“ von Morhof 1685 neu herausgegeben sind. |
