  • Biographical Presentation

    Adam: Joh. Friedr. A., nannte sich später Michael Friedr. Adams, Botaniker. Er studirte 1795—96 in der medizinischen Schule zu St. Petersburg, bereiste 1800—2 im Gefolge des Grafen Mussin-Puschwin Transkaukasien, begleitete dann als Zoologe im Auftrage der Petersburger Akademie die Gesandtschaft nach China unter dem Grafen Golowkin. Nach dem Mißlingen derselben ward er nach Jakutzk geschickt und ging 1805—6 die Lena hinab, um das bekannte Mammuth zu suchen, kehrte 1806 nach Petersburg zurück und lebte später als Adjunct-Professor für Botanik an der medico-chirurgischen Akademie zu Moskau. Von Tiflis aus veröffentlichte er 10. Nov. 1802 „Decades quinque novarum specierum plantarum“ (in Weber und Mohr, Beiträge I. 41—75. Kiel 1805).
