  • Biographical Presentation

    Stahl: Daniel St., angesehener Philosoph aristotelischer Richtung, wurde geboren 1589 zu Hammelburg im Fuldaischen, † am 17. Mai 1654 in Jena. Er besuchte zuerst die Schule in Schweinfurt, wohin seine lutherischen Eltern sich zeitweilig vor den Verfolgungen des Abtes von Fulda geflüchtet hatten, später die Schule in Coburg, studirte hierauf in Straßburg, Gießen und Frankfurt a. d. O. und wurde, nachdem er 1608 in Gießen promovirt worden war und sich in Jena als Privatdocent habilitirt hatte, 1623 Professor der Logik und Metaphysik an der Universität Jena. In dieser amtlichen Stellung entfaltete er durch drei Jahrzehnte eine sehr ersprießliche Lehrthätigkeit, die jedoch während der letzten Jahre seines Lebens durch ein Augenleiden beeinträchtigt wurde.
