    Koken: Edmund K., Maler, geb. am 4. Juni 1814, † am 30. Ort. 1872 zu Hannover, besuchte hier die polytechnische Schule und ging darauf 1836 nach München, wo er sich besonders mit A. Kreling befreundete. Großen Einfluß übten auf ihn die Rottmann’schen Landschaften. Im J. 1844 kehrte er nach seiner Vaterstadt zurück. K. war fast ausschließlich Landschafter und zwar wählte er mit Vorliebe seine Motive aus den Gebirgswäldern seiner Heimath, deren kraftvollen Charakter er in poetischer Stimmung meisterhaft darzustellen verstand. Schöne Landschaften von ihm besitzt die königl. Gallerie zu Hannover (Kloster), desgleichen die öffentliche Kunstsammlung im Provinzialmuseum daselbst, wo sich von ihm auch 18 Kohlenzeichnungen befinden, wol das Ausgezeichnetste, was in dieser Art geleistet worden ist. Sie sind durch Photographie vervielfältigt. K. war eine liebenswürdige Natur, anregend, auch poetisch und musikalisch beanlagt, begeistert für alle Bestrebungen auf dem Gebiete der Kunst überhaupt.
