  • Biographical Presentation

    G. ist seit circa 1120 urkundlich nachweisbar, zumeist im Würzburger Bereich. Gemeinsam mit seiner Mutter stiftete er im April 1147 das Zisterzienserinnenkloster Ichtershausen (bei Gotha) und erwirkte für dieses von den deutschen Königen und Erzbischöfen von Mainz mehrere Privilegien. Er erbaute kurz vor 1150 die Burg Rothenfels am Main, den späteren Familiensitz. Seit 1139 ist G. oft am Königshof nachweisbar, vor allem unter Friedrich I., jedoch nur in Deutschland. Neben seinen Erbvogteien hatte G. seit 1151 auch die Vogtei von Kitzingen inne.
