  • Biographical Presentation

    Die von G. aufgeführten Winnender Bürgerhäuser (Marktstr. 42 von 1748 und Marktstr. 24) verraten in ihrer überwiegend dekorativen Haltung den aus dem Steinhauerhandwerk hervorgegangenen Baumeister. Auf ihn gehen zahlreiche württembergische Pfarrhäuser zurück. 1745 übernahm er das Turmbauwesen der Pfarrkirche Königsbronn, 1755 das der Pfarrkirche Wolfschlugen. 1753-56 erbaute er die Pfarrkirche in Würtingen. Auch die 1765/66 von Johann Michael Keller erbaute Stadtpfarrkirche Aalen ist im Grundriß von ihm beeinflußt. Als Landbaumeister der Rentkammer (ab 1.5.1749) folgte er Christoph Friedrich Weyhing nach; er arbeitete eng mit Johann Christoph David von Leger zusammen. G. oblag die Überwachung des gesamten Landbauwesens der Rentkammer. Der Wiederaufbau der Stadt Nürtingen nach einem Brand vom 13.12.1750 zeigt ihn als bedeutenden Städtebauer des Barock: durch ein achsiales Straßenkreuz zwischen Oberem Tor und Kirchplatz, Rathaus und Spital gibt er dem Stadtgrundriß organische Einheit, die als Ausdruck des städtischen Gemeinwesens erfahren wird; auch der Aufriß der Häuser geht auf seine Entwürfe zurück, darunter der des Spitals.
