Biographical Presentation
Schleich: Johann Karl S., Kupferstecher, geb. 1759 zu Augsburg, lernte bei F. X. Jungwirth in München. Sodann ließ er sich in Augsburg nieder und verdankte hier besonders dem Maler und Radirer Jakob Mettenleiter, der sich 1778 in Augsburg ansässig gemacht hatte, seine weitere Ausbildung. Er erhielt den Titel eines fürstlich Regensburgischen Hofkupferstechers. Im J. 1805 wurde er als Kupferstecher an das topographische Bureau nach München berufen, wo er später den Titel Inspector erhielt und 1842 starb. S., der ein recht wackerer Stecher im alten Stile war, stach u. a. das Selbstbildniß des Franz van Mieris (1785), die sog. Mutter des Rubens in der alten Pinakothek zu München, Cimon und Pero nach G. Honthorst ebendaselbst, die betrachtende Unschuld nach J. Mettenleiter, ferner die Bildnisse von Max Prokop, Fürstbischof von Regensburg, L. C. Graf Lehrbach, A. v. Riedl, Paul v. Stetten, J. A. v. Imhoff, J. F. Weiler, Jakob v. Dalberg, Bischof von Worms. Außerdem topographische Arbeiten für Riedl's Stromatlas etc. Hervorzuheben ist besonders|der von J. Consoni 1806 aufgenommene und von T. Green gezeichnete Plan der Stadt München.
