    G. studierte in Mainz, Rom (Germanicum) und Perugia (1614–19), wurde Kanoniker an Sankt Andreas (1622) und Pfarrer von Sankt Christoph (1625) in Köln, wurde bald auch zu mancherlei Reformaufgaben (Mitglied des Kirchenrates, Kommissar bei Visitationen etc.) herangezogen und schließlich zum Auditor der Kölner Nuntiatur (1653) ernannt. 1647 erhielt er die Stiftspropstei von Cranenburg. Am 25.3.1656 wurde er zum Weihbischof von Osnabrück geweiht (ep. Aureopolitanus i. p. i.). Er hinterließ nicht nur zahlreiche gedruckte Schriften, sondern brachte auch in unermüdlichem Sammlerfleiß die Quellensammlung der „Farragines“ auf insgesamt 30 Bände (heute im Historischen Archiv der Stadt Köln).
