Biographical Presentation
Frisius: Johann Jacob F., geb. zu Zürich und gestorben daselbst 1611, wirkte in seiner Vaterstadt als Prediger und Lehrer. Er soll daselbst zwischen 1576 und 1610 erst Professor der Philosophie, dann der Theologie gewesen sein, besaß klassische Bildung und setzte die Richtung Conrad Gesner's fort, dessen Bibliotheca er 1583 neu edirte. Für die Anfänge einer Geschichtsschreibung der Philosophie ist er nicht unwichtig durch folgendes Werk: „Bibliotheca philosophorum classicorum chronologica, in qua veterum philosophorum origo, successio, aetas et doctrina compendiosa ab origine mundi usque ad nostram aetatem proponitur, quibus accessit Patrum ecclesiae Christi doctorum a temporibus Apostolorum usque ad tempora Scholasticorum ad annum usque 1140 secundum eandem temporis seriem enumeratio“.
