Biographical Presentation
Servilius: Johannes S. (auch Knapius, eigentlich Knaep). niederländischer Philologe und Historiker des 16. Jahrhunderts. Ueber sein Leben ist nur bekannt, daß er in Weerth in der Grafschaft Geldern geboren war und von 1536 an in Antwerpen lebte und lehrte. Von seinen Schriften sind bekannt ein „Dictionarium triglotton", „Explanationes in Bucolica Con. Graphaei“, „De mirandis antiquorum operibus et veteris aevi rebus pace belloque magnifice gestis libri III“ (1569, später noch mehrmals aufgelegt); „Gallo-Geldrica coniuratio in Antwerpiam duce M. Rosheymio.“ — 1545 begrüßte er den aus Spanien heimkehrenden Kaiser Karl V. namens des Rathes von Antwerpen mit einer Oratio gratulatoria; er starb nach 1569.
