Biographical Presentation
Gmelin: Eberhard G., Bruder des Prof. juris Christian G., Arzt, den 1. Mai 1761 in Tübingen geboren, lebte bis zu seinem am 3. März 1809 erfolgten Tode als praktischer Arzt in Heilbronn. Er war einer der ersten und eifrigsten Anhänger der Lehre vom thierischen Magnetismus (Mesmerismus), den|er in seinen, diesen Gegenstand behandelnden Schriften ("Untersuchungen über den thierischen Magnetismus", 3 Stücke 1787—89) zuerst als „animalisirtes Elementarfeuer“, später als „animalisirte Electricität“ proclamirt hat.
