  • Biographical Presentation

    Nach dem Studium zu Leipzig, Wien und Straßburg und der Promotion zum Dr. phil. in Göttingen (1887) war A. 1880-89 wissenschaftlicher Hilfsarbeiter an der Deutschen Seewarte zu Hamburg und 1889-1920 Observator an der Sternwarte zu Göttingen; er war seit 1892 Privatdozent und seit 1902 außerordentlicher Professor an der Universität Göttingen. - Bekannt wurde sein „Handbuch der astronomischen Instrumentenkunde“ und sein vielbenutztes „Sternverzeichnis“. Wichtig ist|auch seine Gründung der Göttinger Mechanikerschule.
