  • Biographical Presentation

    B.-Gundahls Weg führte vom Schreinerhandwerk, dann in München über die Kunstgewerbeschule 1876 an die Akademie als Schüler von A. Strähuber, W. Diez und L. von Löfftz. Nach einer Zeichenlehrertätigkeit in Kiel 1878-82 erhielt er 1910 eine Professur für dekoratives Zeichnen und monumentale Kunst an der Münchener Akademie, die er bis 1924 innehatte. Seine Aufnahme in den Maximiliansorden für Wissenschaft und Kunst wurde|erst nach seinem Tode bekannt. – B.-Gundahls künstlerische Entwicklung führte vom strengen Naturalismus zu einem aufgelockerten Impressionismus. In seinen dekorativen Arbeiten verrät sich der Einfluß F. Hodlers. Die religiöse Malerei und das monumentale Porträt gehörten zu seinem hauptsächlichen Arbeitsfeld.
