Biographical Presentation
Adolf Friedrich II., Herzog von Mecklenburg-Strelitz, geb. 19. Oct. 1658, jüngster Sohn des Herzogs Adolf Friedrich I. und der Marie Katharine, des Herzogs von Braunschweig-Danneberg Tochter. Er beanspruchte nach dem Tode seines Schwiegervaters, Herzogs Gustav Adolf von Mecklenburg-Güstrow († 26. Oct. 1695), die Nachfolge in diesem Herzogthum, verglich sich aber am 8. März 1701 zu Hamburg mit dem Herzog Friedrich Wilhelm von Mecklenburg-Schwerin dahin, daß das Herzogthum Güstrow diesem zufallen und er selbst das Fürstenthum Ratzeburg, die Herrschaft Stargard mit den Comthureien Mirow und Nemerow und einen Antheil am Boytzenburger Elbzoll (jährlich 9000 Thlr.) erblich und als selbständiges Herzogthum erhalten solle. Hiedurch ist das Herzogthum (jetzt Großherzogthum) Mecklenburg-Strelitz gebildet. Er starb am 12. Mai 1708.
