  • Biographical Presentation

    G. errichtete 1797 eine Kolonialwarenhandlung in Feldkirch und widmete sich besonders dem Einkauf und Verlag von Baumwolle. 1820 schloß er sich mit der Bludenzer Handelsgesellschaft Getzner, Mutter und Cie. sowie der Sankt Gallner Firma C. Daller-Fels zur Errichtung der Spinnerei Brunnental in Bludenz zusammen (1822 mechanische Spinnerei). 1832 brannte die Fabrik völlig ab und wurde 1834 verkauft. 1833 erbaute er an der Ill die kaiserlich königlich privilegierte Baumwollspinnerei und -weberei G. und Söhne in Feldkirch, die er zur ersten großen mechanischen Weberei der Monarchie machte. Für den Vertrieb sorgten eigene Garnniederlagen in Wien, Linz und Mailand, der Absatz erstreckte sich auf Deutschland, die Schweiz und England. Seit 1816 wirkte G. für die Errichtung einer Handelskammer.
