  • Biographical Presentation

    Kehrer: Karl Christian K., wurde 1758 zu Dillenburg im Nassauischen geboren und vom Hofmaler A. W. Tischbein in Hanau zum Künstlerberufe herangebildet. Im Portraitmalen geübt, fand er seit 1782 Aufnahme am Hofe des Fürsten von Anhalt-Bernburg. Von 1785—1787 besuchte er die von Casanova geleitete Akademie der Künste in Dresden und benutzte mit Erfolg die dortige Gallerie. Er malte fortan, vielfach auf Reisen in Deutschland thätig, Genre- und zeitgeschichtliche Bilder, Portraits und Landschaften in Dietrichs Manier, deren Zeichnung und Colorit dem Geschmack seiner Zeit entsprachen. Zwei Bildchen von ihm werden häufig genannt, das erste unter dem Titel: „Neudeutschthümliches Kunstthum“, einen jungen Künstler in altdeutschem Kostüm vor der von ihm gemalten Madonna darstellend, das zweite mit dem Genius der bildenden Künste im Conflict mit den Accise- und Zollbeamten vor dem Thore einer kleinen Stadt. Bekannt sind ferner drei Compositionen zu „Des Künstlers Erdenwallen“ von Goethe. Im J. 1793 zum Mitglied der Akademie der Künste in Berlin erwählt, starb K. 1833 zu Ballenstedt.
