Biographical Presentation
Aus Kastilien stammendes Adelsgeschlecht, von dem Juan de H. 1526 mit Karl V. nach Deutschland kam. Von den Söhnen war →Anton von H. († 1551) seit 1534 Bischof von Gurk, →Johann (1506–75) kaiserlicher Rat, Oberst und Hauptmann von Triest. 1547 erhielt er den Reichsfreiherrnstand als „Freiherr von Stichsenstein“. Dessen Sohn, →Ferdinand Freiherr von H. (1553–1609), kaiserlich Oberstkämmerer, führte seit 1582 durch eine große Flußregulierung den für Versorgung und Handel wichtigen „Donaukanal“ unmittelbar an die Stadtmauern Wiens heran (s. ADB 13). →Ladislaus (1834–1901) war österreichisch Botschafter in Paris, →Alexander (1876–1937) österreichisch Diplomat (s. ÖBL).
