  • Biographical Presentation

    C. begann 1798 mit seinem Schwager I. E. Reiß in Frankfurt eine Großhandlung in Spezereiwaren, die auch Farbstoffe und Farbhölzer aus Indien, China und Südamerika einführte. 1820 Alleininhaber, nahm er 1828 den als Prokuristen bei ihm beschäftigten Ludwig Aron Gans als Teilhaber einer neuen Firma L. C. & Co. auf. 1848 schied auch die Witwe C. aus dem Geschäft aus. Gans wandte sich schließlich unter Beibehaltung des Firmennamens der jungen chemischen Industrie zu und wurde damit zum eigentlichen Begründer der späteren C.-Werke.
