  • Biographical Presentation

    A. war der bedeutendste Sohn von Giovanni Casimiro A.. Nach seinem Bruder Pasquale A. (1755–85) war er Teilhaber in Wien, wo er 1793 ausschied. Seit 1790 leitete er mit seinem zweiten Bruder Giovanni Maria A. die Mainzer Firma, die er durch eine Landkarten- und Musikabteilung bereicherte, 1793 nach Mannheim verlegte und durch Heirat mit dem Haus seines Schwiegervaters vereinigte. Seit 1819 als Kunst- und Verlagsbuchhandlung “A. & Fontaine“ geführt, erwarb sich das Unternehmen unter seinen Söhnen namentlich auf dem Gebiet des Kupferstichs europäischen Ruf. Als Verlagsbuchhandlung bestand die Firma bis 1867.
