  • Biographical Presentation

    A. studierte 1878-84 Physik in Leipzig, Würzburg, Berlin und Straßburg, war seit 1884 Assistent bei A. Kundt in Straßburg, seit 1888 Privatdozent in Straßburg und seit 1890 in Berlin. Er konstruierte 1892 eine Quecksilberbogenlampe und die „A.sche Schwingungsröhre“. 1898 schuf er einen elektromagnetischen Saitenunterbrecher. Des weiteren arbeitete er vornehmlich über elektrische Wellen, den elektrischen Lichtbogen, Interferenzstreifen im Spektrum, Verdünnungswärme und Wärmekapazität von Salzlösungen, elektrische Konstanten leitender Flüssigkeiten und Kohärerwirkung. Als sozialistischer Politiker setzte er sich für Volksbildung und Bodenreform ein. 1899 wurde er auf Grund des eigens zu diesem Zwecke geschaffenen preußischen „A.-Gesetzes“ wegen seiner politischen Haltung von der Privatdozentur suspendiert.
