Biographical Presentation
Praetorius: Benjamin P., ein Dichter, von dessen Lebensumständen fast nichts bekannt ist. Er stammt aus Weißenfels, wurde im J. 1657 Adjunct des Predigers Andreas Praetorius zu Lissa bei Delitzsch und ward am 15. Februar 1661 von Theodor Securius zum Dichter getränt. Er gab zwei Sammlungen geistlicher Lieder heraus: „Jauchzender Libanon", 1659, wieder aufgelegt 1668, und „Spielende Myrtenaue“, 1664. Im ganzen sind von ihm in diesen beiden Sammlungen (nach Koch) 188 Lieder veröffentlicht, von denen mehrere eine weitere Verbreitung in Gemeindegesangbüchern gefunden haben. Sein bekanntestes Lied dürfte: „Wohl mir, Jesus, meine Freude, lebet noch und schafft mir Ruh“ sein.
