  • Biographical Presentation

    Willems: Marcus W., Maler, wurde um das Jahr 1527 in Mecheln geboren. Er wurde, noch sehr jung, Schüler von Michael van Coxcyen dem Aelteren, bei dem er sich zu einem tüchtigen Meister entwickelte. Für die Kathedrale des h. Romuald (St. Rombaud) in Mecheln malte er zwei Bilder: die Enthauptung des Johannes und Judith, die dem Holofernes das Haupt abschlägt. Als Philipp II. am 6. September 1549 seinen Einzug in Mecheln hielt, entwarf er zwei Triumphbogen, auf deren einem er Scenen aus der Geschichte der Dido malte. Außerdem wird uns berichtet, daß W. Zeichnungen für Glasmaler, Decorateure und Teppichmacher entwarf. Er starb im J. 1561.
