  • Biographical Presentation

    Die C. betrieben zuerst Tuch- und Nadelfabrikation in der geistlichen Reichsherrlichkeit Burtscheid. →Johann Adam (1673–1731) erweiterte sie und verlegte sie in ein 1709 angekauftes umfangreiches Besitztum in Aachen. Dort weilte 1717 auf seiner Rückreise von Holland Zar Peter der Große, während er die Nachricht von der Revolution in Rußland empfing. 1716 kaufte C. Schloß Neu(en)burg bei Gülpen (niederländisches Limburg). Handelsverbindungen der C. bestanden im 18. Jahrhundert hauptsächlich mit Rußland, dem Baltikum, Finnland, Schweden, Österreich, Böhmen und Süddeutschland. Die Firma „Esaias C. seel. Wittib und Co.“ erlosch 1825.
