  • Biographical Presentation

    Clemens: Gottfried C., geb. am 1. Sept. 1706 in Berlin, † am 23. März 1776 in Herrnhut. Als Student der Theologie zu Jena 1726—1730 ward er mit Spangenberg befreundet und trat, nachdem er von 1734 bis 1746 Hofpredigerstellen zu Lobenstein, Sorau und Ebersdorf bekleidet hatte, mit der Ebersdorfer Hofgemeinde 1746 zur Brüderunität über. C. gründete 1754 das neue Brüderseminar zu Barby und gab Zinzendorf's Reden über biblische Texte heraus. Das Brüdergesangbuch enthält etliche Lieder von ihm, unter welchen das auf seinen Taufnamen Gottfried hervorragt: „Umschließ mich ganz mit deinem Frieden etc.“
