  • Biographical Presentation

    Unzer: Johann August U., berühmter Arzt und Psycholog, jüngerer Bruder des älteren Joh. Christ. U. (s. S. 336), geb. in Halle 29. April 1727, widmete sich dem medicinischen Studium und promovirte am 9. Sept. 1748 zum Dr. med. Diss. inaug. „De sternutatione“ (Halle 1743). 1750 ließ er sich als praktischer Arzt in Hamburg nieder, siedelte indeß bald von da nach Altona über, wo er am 2. April 1799 auch gestorben ist. Er übte eine große Wirksamkeit durch die von ihm herausgegebene Wochenschrift: „Der Arzt", von 1759 an erschienen in 12 Theilen, welche 3 Auflagen erlebt hat und noch immer nicht ohne Werth ist. Dieselbe ist ins Holländische, Schwedische und Dänische übersetzt. Daneben verfaßte er ein „Medicinisches Handbuch", 1770, 5. Aufl. 1794 in 3 Bänden. Außerdem gab er eine Reihe psychologischer Schriften heraus, ferner erschien „Sammlung kleiner physikalischer Schriften“ 1766, 2 Th. und „Sammlungen zur speculativen Philosophie“ 1767. Auch Poetisches hat er geliefert. — Seine Gattin war Johanne Charlotte U., geb. Ziegler, s. u.
