Biographical Presentation
Casmann: Otto C., Theologe und Philosoph, † am 1. August 1607, war ein Schüler des Goclenius, wurde erster Lehrer der Schule zu Steinfurt und darauf Schulrector und Prediger zu Stade. Er suchte sich in der Philosophie von der Autorität der Aristotelischen Philosophie zu befreien und einen selbständigen Standpunkt zu gewinnen, blieb aber dabei auf halbem Wege stehen. Auch eine zu Frankfurt 1601 erschienene Apologie vermochte seinen Schriften keinen durchschlagenden Erfolg zu erringen. Dennoch ist er nicht ohne Verdienste um Logik, Psychologie, Moral und Politik und namentlich seine Arbeit über die empirische Psychologie verdient in Erinnerung gehalten zu werden. Die einschlägige Schrift führt den Titel: „Psychologia anthropologica sive animae humanae doctrina“ 1594, 1604; „Anthropologiae pars II. h. e. de fabrica humani corporis methodice descripta“ 1596.
