  • Biographical Presentation

    Sennert: Andreas S. ward zu Wittenberg als Sohn des dortigen Professors der Medicin Daniel S. (s. u.) im J. 1606 geboren. Er studirte orientalische Sprachen auf der Universität seiner Vaterstadt, außerdem zu Leipzig, Jena und Straßburg. Im Jahre 1638 ward er in Wittenberg Professor der orientalischen Sprachen und starb daselbst 1689.

    Aus der großen Zahl der Schriften und Abhandlungen Sennerts, welche man bei Jöcher Bd. 4, Sp. 505 f. aufgeführt findet (vgl. auch die bibliographischen Quellen bei Meyer, Geschichte der Schrifterklärung Bd. 3, S. 18, A. 13) sind für die Geschichte der semitischen Sprachwissenschaft diejenigen von Interesse, welche dem Vorgange de Dieu's und Hottinger's folgend, eine Art grammatischer Synopsis der wichtigsten Dialekte herzustellen versuchten. Freilich war das Verfahren zu sehr das einer rohen Empirie, als daß es zu wirklich haltbaren Resultaten kommen konnte. Von S. gehören hierher die „Hypotyposis harmonica linguarum orientalium chald. syr. et arab. cum matre hebraea“ 1653 und die denselben Gegenstand gewissermaßen als Variationen behandelnden Arbeiten: „Arabismus i. e. praecepta Arabicae linguae in harmonia ad Ebraea ..... conscripta“..... 1658 4° (s. den vollständigen Titel bei Meyer a. a. O. S. 60 A. 90) und „Rabbinismus h. e. praecepta Targumico-Talmudico-Rabbinica in harmonia ad Ebraea ..... conscripta“ 1666 4° (s. den vollständigen Titel bei Meyer a. a. O.).
