Biographical Presentation
Cannabich: Gottfried Christian C., Vater des rühmlichst bekannten Geographen, geb. 27. April 1745 zu Sondershausen, erhielt daselbst seine Schulbildung, studirte 1764—66 in Jena Theologie, bekleidete von 1767 an mehrere geistliche Aemter und wurde 1794 in seiner Vaterstadt erster Geistlicher und Superintendent mit dem Titel Kirchenrath. Krankheitshalber gab er 1809 das Predigtamt ab und 1813 hörte seine übrige amtliche Thätigkeit auf. Er starb 23. Sept. 1830. — Ein Verzeichniß seiner Schriften findet sich in Meusel's G. T., denen als bemerkenswerth noch hinzuzufügen sind: „Anleitung zur gehörigen Einrichtung christlicher Religionsvorträge", 1805. — „Meiner Gattin wirkliche Erscheinung nach dem Tode", 1805. — „Ist Gall's Gehirn- und Schädellehre für die Moralität bedenklich?", 1806. — „Sämmtliche Evangelien und Episteln übersetzt und erklärt“, 1806. — „Kritik der praktischen christlichen Religion“, 1810—13, 3 Theile.
