Biographical Presentation
Hensler: Christian Gotthilf H., biblischer Exeget, geb. als Sohn Philipp Gabriels zu Preetz am 9. März 1760 (der Vater, s. u. S. 8, muß danach schon als Candidat der Theologie geheirathet haben!), † am 24. April 1812. Er besuchte das Gymnasium zu Altona und hernach die Universität Göttingen, nahm 1782 eine Hofmeisterstelle bei dem Grafen von Reventlow zu Kopenhagen an, erwarb dort auch die Magisterwürde und trat 1784 bei der philosophischen Facultät zu Kiel als Adjunct ein. Hier erhielt er 1786 eine außerordentliche, 1789 aber eine ordentliche Professur der Theologie, wurde auch 1792 zum Doktor der Theologie ernannt. Die Function eines alternirenden Mitgliedes der Eraminations-Collegien zu Gottorf und Glückstadt wurde ihm 1803 übertragen. 1809 legte er jedoch sein Amt nieder und privatisirte von nun an erst zu Altenburg, hernach bis an sein Lebensende zu Halle. Er galt hauptsächlich als guter Kenner des alten Testaments und hat sich litterarisch durch eine Reihe von Uebersetzungen und Erklärungen alt- und neutestamentlicher Bücher bekannt gemacht.
