    S →Georg († 1504), Eltermann der St. Georgenbrüderschaft, Bauherr der St. Georgshalle, seit 1484 Bürgermeister in Danzig.

  • Biographical Presentation

    Von Hause aus Schiffer und Reeder, zeichnete sich B. als Flottenführer in der oft vom Kaperkrieg bedrohten Handelsfahrt und als geschickter Unterhändler in den vielfältigen Beziehungen der hansischen Welt aus. Seit 1425 Schöffe, 1428 Ratsherr, erschien er auf vielen preußischen Stände- und Städtetagen als Danzigs Vertreter. 1436 führte er eine preußisch-livländische Handelsflotte, sandte aus Brügge wichtige Berichte über die politische Lage in Holland und Burgund und schloß in der Bretagne zur Beendigung des seit 1419 andauernden Handelskrieges mit den spanischen Kaufleuten einen Friedensvertrag. Der Danziger Komtur verlieh ihm das Gut Tempelburg.
