  • Biographical Presentation

    B. promovierte 1886 in Leipzig zum Dr. phil. mit der Dissertation „Elemente der vierdimensionalen Geometrie“ (1894). 1887-97 war er am Realgymnasium Zittau, dann am Gymnasium Bautzen tätig. An sein Hauptwerk über die schwierigen, auch für die mehrdimensionale Geometrie wichtigen Probleme der „Vielecke und Vielflache (Theorie und Geschichte)“ (1900) hat G. Mulsow in „Mascheronische Konstruktionen“ (1898) angeknüpft, indem er zeigte, daß die Theorie der mit Zirkel und Lineal allein ausführbaren Konstruktionen auch im Raum bei den Vielflachen angewandt werden kann. B.s Lebenswerk ist seine über 200 mathematische Modelle von Sternkörpern umfassende Sammlung, die er selbst angefertigt und 1930/31 dem mathematischen Institut der Universität Heidelberg geschenkt hat. B. wurde für diese einzigartige wissenschaftliche Arbeit zum Dr. phil. nat. h. c. promoviert.
