  • Biographical Presentation

    Um 1834 arbeitete B. mit K. F. Gauß in Göttingen an der Konstruktion eines Magnetometers und eines Heliotropen. Neben seinen Konstruktionen von Nivellierinstrumenten, Kippregeln, Grubentheodoliten und astronomischen Instrumenten erbaute er 1850 eine Längenteilmaschine, die es ihm ermöglichte, bei der Einführung des Metermaßes in Preußen 1866 die Normalmeter für die Eichungskommission des Norddeutschen Bundes serienmäßig herzustellen.
