    Das Adelsgeschlecht v. Vorbeck war in Pommern und in der Mark Brandenburg reich begütert. Der Name „Lettow“ wird in der 2. Hälfte des 14. Jh. zuerst erwähnt, er wird allmählich zum Hauptnamen, seit Mitte des 19. Jh. tritt der vereinigte Name auf. Aus der Familie gingen u. a. hervor: Heinrich Wilhelm v. L. (1714-93), preuß. Generalmajor (s. Priesdorff II, S. 101 f., P), Carl Ernst v. L. (1746-1826), preuß. Generalmajor (ebd. III, S. 157 f.), Georg Wilhelm v. L. (1762-1849), preuß. Generalleutnant (ebd. IV, S. 341-43, P), Hermann v. L.-V. (1835–1913), preuß. General d. Inf. (s. BJ 18, Tl., L), und Oskar v. L.-V. (1839–1904), preuß. Generalmajor, Kriegshistoriker (ebd. X, Tl., L).
