Biographical Presentation
Langenhöffel: Johann Josef L., Maler (geb. zu Düsseldorf 1750, † am 31. Dec. 1807 in Wien). Nach erlangter Ausbildung in seiner Vaterstadt, verlegte sich der Künstler Vorzugsweise auf die Radirung von Werken italienischer Meister, worin er es zu einer großen Fertigkeit brachte. Er war zuerst kurpfalz-baierischer Hofmaler zu Mannheim, und übersiedelte dann nach Wien, wo er eine Stellung als Galleriedirector erhielt. Von seinen Originalwerken sind „Der Raub der Sabinerinnen“ und das Porträt Kaiser Leopold II. nennenswerth.
