Biographical Presentation
Nach dem Studium in Heidelberg und München (Emil Fischer) und praktischer Tätigkeit in Frankfurt arbeitete B., der 1890 bei einem Experiment die Sehkraft eines Auges verloren hatte, im Staatslaboratorium in München, zunächst zusammen mit J. Ibele. Seine beobachtungsreichen und zuverlässigen Forschungen galten fast alle der Chinolin-Reihe, zuletzt der Darstellung der lange unbekannt gebliebenen Py-Sulfonsäuren des Chinolins. Von besonderem Interesse war die Entdeckung der roten Farbstoffe aus Chinolin-α-carbonsäuren.
