Biographical Presentation
Kirch: Johann Philipp K., katholischer Geistlicher, geb. am 27. Novbr. 1767 zu Kitzingen, † am 6. December 1829 zu Karlsruhe. Nachdem er das Gymnasium zu Würzburg absolvirt hatte, studirte er Anfangs in Heidelberg Mathematik, wollte dann Jurist werden, wandte sich schließlich aber der Theologie zu. 1792 zum Priester geweiht, war er zuerst Kaplan, seit 1803 Stadtpfarrer und Decan in Mannheim, seit 1816 Stadtpfarrer, geistlicher Rath und Decan in Karlsruhe. Er ließ eine Anzahl Fastenpredigten und Casualreden drucken. Nach seinem Tode erschienen noch zwei Bande Predigten von ihm, 1830 und 1836. Kirch's Predigten, formell ansprechend, aber nicht nur von jeder confessionellen Färbung frei, sondern auch ohne positiv christlichen Charakter, erlebten mehrere Auflagen, und 1840—41 erschien noch einmal eine Gesammtausgabe derselben in 4 Bänden, besorgt von dem Decan Mühling.
