    Roux: Karl R., Historienmaler, geboren in Heidelberg am 14. August 1826 als Sohn des Landschaftsmalers Jacob W. Ch. R. Seine erste Ausbildung erhielt er in Düsseldorf namentlich unter Leitung von Karl Hübner; ging dann auch nach München, Antwerpen und Paris. Später lebte er einige Zeit in Karlsruhe und wurde 1882 Director der großherzoglichen Gemäldegalerie in Mannheim. Anfangs malte er hauptsächlich historische Darstellungen in genrehafter Auffassung wie „Die Plünderung eines Dorfes während des dreißigjährigen Krieges“ und „Dorothea mit dem Ochsengespann“ (beide in der Galerie zu Karlsruhe) „Landsknechtsrast“ (in der Galerie zu Hamburg.) Nachher malte er mehr Genrebilder und Tiere, unter Anderem: „Viehmarkt beim Oktoberfest in München", „Heuernte“, „Auf der Alm“ (in der Galerie zu Mannheim). Er erhielt die Medaille 2. Cl. Melbourne. Starb in Mannheim am 21. Juli 1894.
