  • Biographical Presentation

    Die Gebrüder B. kamen 1786 nach Potsdam, wo sie sich geschäftlich betätigten. Besonders in der Kriegszeit von 1806 an sind sie an Kriegslieferungen für den preußischen Staat beteiligt. Sie verlegten 1812/13 ihr Geschäft nach Berlin und wandten sich dem reinen Geldgeschäft zu, indem sie weiterhin hauptsächlich für den preußischen Staat tätig waren, der sie infolge des Fehlens eines leistungsfähigen staatlichen Bankinstituts in Anspruch nahm, um umfangreiche und entscheidende Finanzgeschäfte allein oder mit anderen Berliner Bankhäusern durchzuführen. Mit dem wachsenden Einfluß Christian von Rothers, des späteren Präsidenten der Seehandlung, auf die staatlichen Finanzgeschäfte löste sich schließlich das Bankhaus B. vom Staate. Die Gebrüder B. wandten sich 1818 der Zuckersiederei zu. Louis B. ließ sich am Park Charlottenburg ein Landhaus durch Schinkel erbauen.
