    Hörl: Johann Franz H., kaiserl. Hofbauamtsmaler, geb. in Wien im J. 1653, † ebenda am 3. Mai 1742. H. hat sich als Theaterdecorationsmaler einen großen Ruf erworben; er war als Architecturmaler im Hofbauamte beschäftigt, wurde 1715 zum kaiserl. Komödienmaler ernannt, 1719 wurde er auch beauftragt, die inneren kaiserlichen Wohnräume auszumalen. Er war ein tüchtiger Colorist, der das barocke Ornament mit seltener Meisterschaft beherrschte. Seine Theaterdecorationen für die damaligen kaiserl. Opernvorstellungen sind zumeist Architekturen; riesenhafte Bogenconstruktionen, die Aussicht ins Freie gewähren oder architektonische Perspectiven von zauberhafter Grandiosität. Es steckte eine große künstlerische Kraft in dem Meister.
