  • Biographical Presentation

    Nach dem Tode des Abtes Hadamar wurde H. am 26.7.956 Abt von Fulda. Als solcher nahm er 961 am Italienzug Ottos I. teil und wurde von diesem im Dezember nach Rom vorausgeschickt, um die Ankunft des Königs vorzubereiten. Auch bei der Kaiserkrönung Ottos am 2.2.962 war er zugegen. Als 968 EB Wilhelm von Mainz starb, sandte der Kaiser von Italien aus den Abt Egilulf von Hersfeld nach Deutschland, um die Wahl H.s als Nachfolger durchzusetzen, da dieser im Gegensatz zu Wilhelm mit der Gründung des Erzbistums Magdeburg einverstanden war. H. wurde gewählt und stimmte auf der Synode von Ravenna im Oktober 968 der Errichtung von Magdeburg zu. – H. hatte das Erzkanzleramt inne, hielt sich jedoch nach allem, was wir aus den Quellen wissen, nicht ständig in der Umgebung des Kaisers auf. Er war ein treuer Anhänger Ottos und unterstützte dessen Reichs- und Kirchenpolitik. Wegen der Kürze seines Pontifikats spielte er jedoch keine bedeutende Rolle.
