  • Biographical Presentation

    Hanslick: Jos. Adolf H., geb. 1785 zu Lischan bei Rakonitz in Böhmen, gest. zu Prag am 2. Februar 1859. Nachdem er sich in seinen Jugendjahren vorwiegend mit belletristischen und ästhetischen Studien beschäftigt hatte, erhielt er 1822 die Stelle eines Scriptors an der Prager Universitätsbibliothek, welche Stellung er jedoch im Jahre 1836 wegen andauernder Kränklichkeit aufgeben mußte. Seit dieser Zeit beschäftigte er sich vorwiegend mit bibliographischen Arbeiten und sicherte sich durch seine „Geschichte und Beschreibung der Universitätsbibliothek“, ein Werk seltenen Fleißes und großer Gründlichkeit, welche H. im J. 1852 mit Unterstützung der kaiserl. Akademie der|Wissenschaften herausgab, ein bleibendes Andenken. Von seinen Söhnen hat Eduard als Professor für Geschichte der Musik an der Universität in Wien und als Musikschriftsteller sich einen bedeutenden Ruf erworben.
