Biographical Presentation
Gircken: Nicolas G., 1661 zu Eybertingen in der ehemaligen Propstei St. Vith geboren, trat 1680 in den Orden der Eremiten vom heil. Augustinus, promovirte zum Doctor der Theologie und erhielt einen Lehrstuhl in Köln. Seine Gelehrsamkeit brachte ihn bald zu großem Ansehen. Er wurde Synodal-Examinator, am 26. April 1703 Prior seines Klosters und bald darauf Provinzial im Ordenscapitel zu Köln. Diese Würde bekleidete er bis zum 23. Januar 1706. Am 14. April desselben Jahres wurde sie ihm von neuem übertragen und er blieb im Besitze derselben bis zum 10. Mai 1715. Er starb zu Aachen am 1. Juli 1717. G. hat uns ein Werk hinterlassen: „Summa summae Theologiae scholasticae juxta tuta et inconcussa dogmata SS. Augustini et Thomae“, 4 Bde., 1704. Ein zweites Werk „De religione et statu religioso“, welches die Fortsetzung des ersten bilden sollte, blieb unvollendet.
