  • Biographical Presentation

    Nachdem G. 1483 eine Pfründe in Mainz erhalten hatte, studierte er 1484/85 in Paris, 1486-88 in Padua, wo er zum Dr. iur. promoviert wurde. 1501 Assessor am Kammergericht in Speyer, wurde er 1505 zum Domdekan in Mainz gewählt und am 27.11.1508 zum Erzbischof. An den Bestimmungen der Reichstage zu Worms 1509, Augsburg 1510, Trier und Köln 1512, Worms 1513 zur Reichsreform, Reichsordnung und zum Reichskammergericht war er maßgebend beteiligt. Im Erfurter Aufstand 1509 sicherte er die Stadt dem Erzstift. Reformeifrig, war er zugleich ein Freund der Humanisten, der auf Seiten Reuchlins stand und Grünewald förderte. Sein früher Tod hinderte eine seinen Anlagen und seiner Stellung entsprechende Wirkung.
