  • Biographical Presentation

    B., Mönch in Pforta, wurde - wohl nach Studium der Artes liberales - zum Wintersemester 1483 an der theologischen Fakultät Leipzig immatrikuliert. Er legte die üblichen Examina ab (Cursor 1485, Sententiar 1486, Lizentiat 1487, Doktor 1496) und wird am 13.1.1486 zuerst als Provisor des Bernhard-Kollegs in Leipzig genannt (wohl bis 1498/99, letzte Nennung 1496). Er bewirkte 1488 die Errichtung eines ordentlichen philosophischen Lehrstuhls der Zisterzienser in Leipzig, wo er neben seinen theologischen Vorlesungen im Bernhard-Kolleg als Determinator artium Vorlesungen über →Aristoteles hielt. B. verfaßte u. a. zwei weit verbreitete, Sinn und Worte deutende Meßerklärungen in lebendiger durchgliederter Darstellung. Zwischen dem 18.11.1500 und dem 19.8.1501 wurde er zum Abt von Pforta gewählt. Als solcher nahm er durch wirtschaftliche und reformerische Visitationen, z. T. auf Anordnung Papst Alexanders VI., Einfluß auf das Leben vieler sächsischer Klöster, vor allem in Nimbschen, Eisenach, Sonnenfeld, Ichtershausen, Häseler und Leubus. Pforta verdankt ihm den Umbau des Refektoriums und reiche Mehrung des Klosterguts, vornehmlich durch Käufe und Pfandnahmen von Herzog Georg von Sachsen, mit dem B. ein gutes Verhältnis verband.
