Biographical Presentation
B. studierte in Berlin und Bonn. Er war an den Sternwarten in Gotha und Bothkamp tätig, war 1883-91 Préparateur des cours d'astronomie et géodésie an der Universität Lüttich, arbeitete kurz an der Sternwarte Uccle, Brüssel, und war seit 1891 Direktor der Kuffnerschen Sternwarte in Wien. - Von Bedeutung sind seine Entdeckung des Planetoiden Athamantis (1882) und seine Arbeiten auf dem Gebiet der sphärischen Astronomie sowie zur Theorie der atmosphärischen Strahlenbrechung; die von ihm berechneten Refraktionstafeln (1906) werden noch heute oft benutzt.
