  • Biographical Presentation

    B. besuchte die Eisenacher Lateinschule bis zum Jahre 1689 und war in der Musik Schüler seines Vaters und des Jenaer Stadtorganisten J. M. Knüpfer, eines Sohnes des Thomaskantors S. Knüpfer in Leipzig. Nach einer Italienreise wurde er 1696 Nachfolger Knüpfers in Jena. Von B.s Kompositionen ist eine Kurzmesse und ein Singspiel „Der Jenaische Wein- und Bierrufer“, ein Quodlibet|über Jenaer Studentenbräuche, erhalten. B.s Schüler F. E. Niedt, der 1694 an der Universität Jena immatrikuliert wurde, verfaßte eine Generalbaß- und Kompositionslehre („Musikalische Handleitung“, Hamburg 1700), die →Johann Sebastian B. seinem Unterricht zugrunde legte.
