  • Biographical Presentation

    Nach seiner Studienzeit, die F. mit dem Dr. phil. (Münster 1919) und dem Dr. med. (Gießen 1922) abschloß, habilitierte er sich 1922 in Münster und wurde dort 1928 außerordentlicher Professor. 1930 wurde er als ordentlicher Professor nach Greifswald, 1935 nach Stuttgart berufen. – Bei F.s Hauptwerk bauen zwei Reihen von Untersuchungen aufeinander auf: 1920 beginnen die Experimentalarbeiten über die Hydroxyde und Oxydhydrate, zusammenfassend dargestellt in „Hydroxyde und Oxydhydrate“ (1937, mit G. F. Hüttig). Da gerade bei Hydroxyden aktive Zustände der Materie besonders häufig und ausgeprägt auftreten und auch ihre besondere Bedeutung in der Technik besitzen (Absorptionsmittel, Katalysatorträger), widmete sich F. etwa seit 1932 in eingehendem Studium diesen aktiven Zuständen. Insbesondere gelang es ihm, diese mit ihrer Struktur in Beziehung zu setzen und ihren höheren Energieinhalt nachzuweisen und zu bestimmen.
