  • Biographical Presentation

    Durch unablässiges Selbststudium arbeitete sich A., der aus einfachsten Verhältnissen stammte, vom Handlungsgehilfen zum - von V. Adler berufenen - Chefredakteur (seit 1895) der Wiener sozialdemokratischen „Arbeiter-Zeitung“ empor. Er wurde 1919 in die konstituierende österreichische Nationalversammlung und 1920 in den Nationalrat gewählt. A. kämpfte mit oft schroffen Methoden, nicht ohne Herabsetzung der politischen Gegner, besonders für das allgemeine gleiche Wahlrecht sowie für eine sozialistische Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftsordnung.
